SSTV Award 2026 Official Guidelines Updated: PD90 Mode and Operating Schedule Confirmed
Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Organizing Committee of the SSTV Award 2026, organized by ORARI Special Region of Yogyakarta, has released an updated version of the official event guidelines. The revision includes the confirmation of the operating schedule and an important technical update regarding the SSTV transmission mode.
The event will take place over two days, 10–11 July 2026, utilizing the Indonesian amateur radio satellite LAPAN-A2 (IO-86). Participants from around the world are invited to receive SSTV image transmissions and submit their best reception reports.
Important Update: SSTV Mode Changed to PD90
One of the key revisions in the updated guidelines is the adoption of PD90 as the official SSTV transmission mode for all scheduled satellite passes.
This replaces the previously published PD50 mode. Participants are encouraged to update their SSTV decoding software accordingly before the event begins.
Operating Parameters
- Satellite: LAPAN-A2 / IO-86
- Downlink Frequency: 435.880 MHz
- SSTV Mode: PD90
The use of PD90 is expected to provide higher image quality, allowing participants to obtain clearer and more reliable SSTV images during satellite operations.
Official Event Schedule
The SSTV Award 2026 will be conducted during four scheduled satellite passes:
Friday, 10 July 2026
- Pass 1
- Pass 2
Saturday, 11 July 2026
- Pass 3
- Pass 4
Participants are encouraged to follow the latest satellite pass predictions before each transmission to ensure successful reception. The official guidelines also recommend monitoring the published orbital schedule through the event's communication channels.
Participation
The event is open to licensed amateur radio operators, SWLs, students, satellite enthusiasts, and the general public. No amateur radio license is required to receive the SSTV transmissions, as participation is based solely on reception (RX).
To qualify for the SSTV Award 2026, participants must submit at least four received SSTV images collected during Pass 1 through Pass 4, meeting the minimum quality requirements specified in the official guidelines. Outstanding receptions with image quality of 80% or higher will also be eligible for a Special Physical QSL Card, subject to verification.
Download the Updated Guidelines
Participants are strongly encouraged to download and review the latest edition of the SSTV Award 2026 Guidelines, which now reflects the official operating mode (PD90) and the confirmed event schedule.
ORARI Special Region of Yogyakarta looks forward to welcoming participants from Indonesia and around the world to another exciting satellite SSTV event.
73 and good luck!
